Curriculum

While there are countless woodworking projects available online, there are very few comprehensive middle/high school oriented curriculums. Below you'll find a semesters worth of text and projects to build your course from.  

You can preview all materials online with the flip books below.  Feel free to use these as needed, but purchasing the files allows for editable (Microsoft Word, PDF) files that will be updated as revisions/additions come about.

The curriculum is organized as follows:

Textbooks

These can serve as the backbone of your curriculum.  Assign them digitally, or print them out as a reference/consumable that students can use

Further, there are competency labs that bring in text from the above books and can be used as stand alone assignments.  Each provides some background and a task based around fundamental competencies needed for a woodshop.  They progress as follows:

  1. Lab #1 - Measurement
  2. Lab #2 - Drafting
  3. Lab #3 - Drill Bit & Fastener Lab (simple joinery)
  4. Lab #4 - Hand Plane & Thickness Planer
  5. Lab #5 - Panel Glue Up & Sanding
  6. Lab #6 - Joinery Lab

While the labs are created around concepts, the following projects provide students with a flexible way to create basic projects that result in a toolbox full of tools.  They are flexible in terms of materials and fabrication steps and give students to focus on useful tools while learning measurement, fabrication and design skills.  Each project has a drafting or CAD component (TinkerCAD) so that students can eventually design their own projects.  The project progression is as follows:

Finally, there are student workbooks that incorporate much of the textbook, but are organized as packets that students can utilize.  I highly recommend the safety workbook as it provides fundamental training for common woodshop tools.  These include:
